The Texas Department Public Safety (DPS) is required to prove financial responsibility before they can obtain a new driver license. The financial responsibility means having automobile liability insurance that meets state standards.
The minimum required automobile liability insurance in the state of Texas is: $25,000 for each injured person, up to a total of $50,000 per accident, and $25,000 for property damage.
If you get caught driving without the required automobile liability insurance, the fine will be $175 to $350. Repeat violators must pay $350 to $1,000 and may have their cars impounded for 180 days. In addition to that their driver licenses will be suspended. All drivers must prove financial responsibility.
